Ingresso gratuito.

Kemp Dances Ancora (e.g. from ‘Kemp Dances’ to ‘Kemp Still Dances’)

Lindsay Kemp is dead. Long live Lindsay Kemp. On Saturday 29 September, Lindsay was going to present a simplified and shortened version of his production Kemp Dances at the Il Funaro Theatre and Cultural Centre in the city of Pistoia, together with his close collaborators on that show, all of them immersed for many years in his technique, performance style and spirit.

On the 24th of August, however, as we all know, he took wing and flew away forever. But his collaborators – as he had said he hoped they would – wish to do what they can to keep the essence of his genius alive… his collaborators in recent years in Italy, and also those who have worked with him in the last 60 years (and countless members of his public who intensely feel his loss but also his continuing inspiration). Various ways of keeping his creative legacy alive will be developed, including rendering his archive and his work accessible online and off, for the future. But in the case of his last production, for Pistoia the performers of Kemp Dances will perform some of the pieces created for them in that production, while Daniela Maccari – his faithful leading dancer, choreographer and invaluable all-round collaborator, whom he authorised and encouraged to perform some of his own roles, in his place, after his death – will also evoke his dancing spirit on the stage.

This event is a celebration and a thanksgiving for the life and work of Lindsay Kemp, and will open with a brief tribute from David Haughton, his collaborator for 45 years, which will include the first of several video sequences in which the maestro will make his presence felt directly.
